Answer: Yes, you can use your American Express credit card in China wherever Amex acceptance marks are displayed.  Most BIG retailers, stores, restaurants and hotels in China accept credit cards, but there are many local shops that do not accept any credit cards; just cash.

Most major cities in China like Shanghai, Beijing, Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Tianjin, Fujian, Guangzhou, Chongqing, Wuhan, Dongguan, Chengdu and Nanjing accepts American Express Credit Cards.  Smaller shops in smaller cities are LESS LIKELY to accept credit cards.
