How many credit cards can I have?



Question: How many credit cards can I apply for?

Answer: There is NO set number of credit cards you can have.  Theoretically you can have unlimited credit cards but most issuers limit you to several of their cards.

  • Chase Credit Cards – usually limits to about 6-8 credit cards before they start rejecting applications or ask you to move credits from existing accounts
  • American Express Credit Cards – usually limits to about 6-8 credit cards before they start rejecting applications or ask you to move credits from existing accounts
  • Discover Credit Cards– usually limits to about 2 credit cards
  • Bank of America Credit Cards – usually limits to about 6-8 credit cards before they start rejecting applications or ask you to move credits from existing accounts
  • Citibank Credit Cards– usually limits to about 6-8 credit cards before they start rejecting applications or ask you to move credits from existing accounts
  • Well Fargo Credit Cards – usually limits to about 2 credit cards
  • Barclays Credit Cards – usually limits to about 2-3 credit cards
  • Store Credit Cards (Usually issued by Synchrony, Comenity, Capital One, Citibank, TD Bank)
  • Gas Credit Cards
  • Supermarket Credit Cards
  • Hotel Credit Cards
  • Airline Credit Cards
  • Travel Credit Cards

For those seeking credit card rewards, it is not uncommon to have 30 credit cards, if not more.
